Camping or Hotels

Well if you own a camper the answer should be simple. Go camping. Campgrounds offer good rates for campers and RVs. You can get a site for around $40.00 a night at a campground. Some will be cheaper and some will be more expensive. But the average is $40.00. Now the average for a hotel might be cheaper or at least more expensive depending on where you stay. The benefit of camping is that there is a lot more to do then just sit in the room and watch TV. Most but not all campgrounds will have a pool, game room, putt-putt golf, horseshoes and movies or karaoke. Now that is a lot to do that you can’t do in a motel room. Also when you are at a campground you feel the need to explore a bit. I generally walk around the campground once to check out all of the campers and RVs. Some are really cool. I always find good people to talk to as well. Someone is always willing to swap stories with me! Another benefit of camping is the peace and quiet of the nights. It is really relaxing when you see the glows of the campfire, the smells of the smoke and the laughter of children.

I read in a magazine one time that you will save 40% on your vacation bill just by going camping instead of staying in a hotel. Now that doesn’t mean going camping locally, no this means going camping at the location that you were planning on going for vacation. Think about it, if you go to the beach and stay in a beach front motel you will pay $130.00 a night. If you go camping at the beach in a local campground you will have saved $60.00 to $80.00 dollars a night! This means you can go out to eat and still save money. Not to mention when you go camping you have your on things like sheets, pillows, mattress and silverware. Not that I’m not saying that there is anything wrong with these items at the motel, it’s just that you really don’t know. I have heard that the bed spreads at motels are not washed after every use and that is pretty nasty.

What about renting an RV? Well you can do that. I imagine that if you rent an RV that the cost will go up significantly. However you still get the peace and quiet that you deserve. I have seen a lot of the rental RVs on the road lately and I think it is becoming more and more popular. Renting an RV can take the hassle out of owning one that’s for sure. In the winter time when you are not using your RV it can take a toll. Always use fuel stabilizer and protect your tires from sun which can lead to them dry rotting. You also want to be sure to drain all water from your RV so that it wont freeze and bust. This is what lead me to replacing my hot water heater.

Camping has been what I have done my whole life and I enjoy every bit of it. When you ask me camping would be the better selection. Hotels are nice but when it comes to just having a good ole fashion vacation where the kids are involved and interested you just can't ask for anything better. There were 262 million campers in 2007. Shouldn't you be one of them?
